White Bear Lake Schools

White Bear Lake schools or Minnesota school district 624 includes nine elementary schools, two middle schools, and three high schools as well as a senior program, an early childhood program and transition plus services for young adult special needs students. Centered around building quality, lives and strong communities through compassion, integrity, respect and responsibility, the White Bear Lake Area School district strives to prepare students for the challenges of life in the real world, and recruit, retain and value skilled staff for all positions.

1. White Bear Lake Area School District has nine elementary schools. Schools serving children K-5 (kindergarten through 5th grade) include Birch Lake Elementary, Hugo Elementary, Otter Lake Elementary, Lakeaires Elementary, Vadnais Heights Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, Willow Lane Elementary and Matoska International IB World School. Oneka Elementary only serves grades one through five. A before and after school program, "The Extended Day" program is offered from 6.30 a.m. until the start of the school day and from the end of the school day until 6 p.m., as well as for half-day kindergarten students. As of 2011, an extended day program for toilet-trained four-year-olds will be offered to help prepare children for kindergarten at Lakeaires, Otter Lake and Hugo Elementary Schools. In addition to the extended day program during the school year, there is also a summer program that runs from mid-June to mid-August from 6.30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. three, four or five days per week depending on childcare needs. All White Bear Lake elementary schools are in session from 9:15 a.m. to 3:40 p.m. The Matoska International IB (international Baccalaureate) World School offers a global environment with once to twice weekly Spanish coursework for grades K through 5.
2. There are two middle schools in White Bear Lake. Central Middle School and Sunrise Park Middle schools both serve grades six through eight and operate from 8:15 a.m. until 3:01 p.m. At Central Middle School, it's requested that students don't arrive at school before 8:00 a.m., and it's advised that students will not be let into the building until after 8 a.m. whereas at Sunrise Park Middle school, building hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. At Central Middle School, each grade is divided into smaller teams of students. 
3. There are three White Bear Area School District high school campuses. Grades nine and ten are housed in the White Bear Lake Area High School North Campus and grades eleven and twelve have classes in the White Bear Lake Area High School South Campus. Ninth and tenth graders attending at the North Campus have classes from 7:30 a.m. to 2:18 p.m. and tenth and eleventh graders attending the South Campus have classes from 7:55 a.m. until 2:37 p.m. The White Bear Lake Area Learning Center serves grades nine through twelve and is a non-traditional, diploma-based school offering a more flexible high school education to students with special circumstances. Students attending programs at the Learning Center may be parents, past high school age, have employment or other issues that would interfere with their education in a more traditional setting. The Insight Program for students recovering from chemical or substance abuse problems is also offered at the learning center. 
4. The White Bear Lake Area School District has three early childhood centers. Early childhood schooling is available in the White Bear Lake Area School District at Normandy Park, Hugo Elementary and Tamarack Nature Center. In Minnesota, all three to five year old children are required by law to complete early childhood screening, including hearing and vision tests, speech and developmental screening and health and immunization screening. Screening is offered at no cost by the school district and is required before starting kindergarten. 
5. In Hugo, Minnesota, the White Bear Lake Area School District offers Transition Plus Services. Transition Plus Services are for special needs students aged eighteen to twenty-one. A Senior Program is also available to participants aged fifty plus in the White Bear Lake Area School District. In addition to meals and rides, the program offers seniors classes and educational activities.
